February 4, 2021 – Toronto, Ontario – Newt Corporation (“Newt” or the “Company”) is pleased to
receive a contract from Royal Dutch Shell PLC (“Shell”) for immediate installation of Newt’s digital
payment kiosks at Shell’s select gas stations throughout Mexico.
Shell, with its subsidiary Shell Mexico S.A. de C.V., and Newt Corporation announced this week the
installation of the first ten self-service kiosks in convenience stores inside select Shell Gas Stations,
offering easy access to digital products and services.
Digital Kiosk transaction volume at gas stations varies from location to location, however, in high traffic
areas, a single kiosk can provide up to $60,000 USD per day in payment services, yielding on average
$2,000-4,000 USD in revenue, expediting the flow of customers by reducing lines, while at the same time
selling additional products.
British-Dutch oil major Shell opened its first gas station in Mexico in 2017, and presently has over 200
stations throughout the country, adding to a growing list of foreign-branded gas stations in the mexican
market. Mexico has over 12,000 gas stations in total, however, it is still one of the countries with the least amount of gas stations per capita, and most in need of digital solutions and modern payment services for clients and operators. Newt’s self-service payment kiosks will allow Shell’s customers to make payments
to over 1,000 service providers, including mobile phone top ups, utilities, such as electricity, gas, water,
road toll prepayment, and municipal payments, as well as the National Lottery.
Mexico is a country where over 65% of adults are unbanked, and Newt’s kiosks allow consumers to make
their essential payments in cash, at secure and convenient locations.
Sergio Maya Aleman, CEO of Latin America of Newt, commented: “Newt is already servicing the
main Mexican highway toll road providers with digital top up solutions, so it is only logical for Shell to
also adopt our solutions targeted at solving onsite issues, which at the same time expands Newt’s payment
locations network across Mexico. Agreements with large companies like Shell will position Newt to be
one of the largest and most reliable networks of digital payments and kiosks in Mexico in the upcoming
years.”
